Taking Yourself to the Next Level The Value of College...
ââ¬Å"You have four years to be irresponsible here. Relax. Work is for people with jobs. Youââ¬â¢ll never remember class time, but youââ¬â¢ll remember time you wasted hanging out with your friends. However, in reality, one must bust their hump everyday to achieve a college degree. In the race of life, one must take whatever they can to exceed oneself passed their competitor. I believe college is worth it in the aspects of receiving valuable contacts, generalâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In addition, internships are also very competitive; many opportunities may be available through campus job in oneââ¬â¢s field. Federal and state governments award ââ¬Å"work-studyâ⬠funding to all colleges and universities (McGuire). Campus jobs can be great for someone who wants to minimize driving expenses. Next, many general skills one may learn in college are essential to success. For instance, public speaking is a great skill to have. The ability to speak clearly and persuasively in front of people is one of the most important skills anyone can obtain. Dustin Wax explains, in the article ââ¬Å"10 Skills You Need to Succeed at Almost Anything,â⬠that for many jobs, public speaking could be an important role. In addition, writing is an important skill for all subjects. Writing well offers many advantages. For example, good writers may excel at selling products and their ideas. Someone with a good sense of grammar has the advantage over one who does not. Finally, self-management is a key skill for a promising future (Wax). Balancing factors of oneââ¬â¢s life will dramatically enhance the output of oneââ¬â¢s future. Next, the simple fact is that some careers require a degree. Now this may range anywhere from an associate degree to a masterââ¬â¢s degree. Some examples that require a two-year degree are dental hygienists, pharmacy technicians and paralegals.
